our values & Actions

As a collective, we believe very strongly in a number of things. At the forefront, we believe most in radical transparency, both within our organization and with you, our supporters. Each of the values listed below is paired with a commitment that we are actively adhering to in our day-to-day operations to uphold all that we firmly believe in.

In the spirit of transparency, we wish for our patrons and followers to be transparent with us as well. We encourage you to reach out to us through our Contact page with any comments or concerns regarding our values as they stand or ways in which we can continue to do better in upholding these values in our everyday work. We will be happy to take your feedback into consideration and make changes as needed to make our organization stronger.

+ ACCESSIBILITY

Whether in-person or online, we will implement strategies to make our productions accessible to a wider audience.

COMMITMENT TO ACCESSIBILITY

Captions for audiovisual works, accessible performance spaces, and clear communication from our staff on available accommodations are just the start of ways in which we hope to create theatre for all audiences.

+ ACCOUNTABILITY

We hold ourselves accountable in our work each and every day. At the same time, we know that we are far from perfect. We encourage our audiences to provide feedback to ensure that there’s an open dialogue between us and our community.

COMMITMENT TO ACCOUNTABILITY

We will educate ourselves and maintain a finger on the pulse of what is new, pressing, and important to know in our ever-changing world. We will also implement a feedback section on our website to encourage ongoing conversation with our audience.

+ AFFORDABILITY

Theatre should be an experience for all, not a luxury for the few. Affordability is an essential part of our existence, giving people of all financial statuses the ability to escape reality and indulge in a work of art.

COMMITMENT TO AFFORDABILITY

As we move forward with establishing programming, we will work to keep affordability at the forefront of our development processes.

+ DEVELOPMENT AND MENTORSHIP

By partnering with emerging artists, we look to support and amplify voices that are not often heard. We will continue to provide the resources and access that is needed in order to help their work flourish.

COMMITMENT TO DEVELOPMENT AND MENTORSHIP

We will launch our new play development program in January 2021, which will give a platform to emerging playwrights from New Jersey, Delaware, New York, and Pennsylvania.

+ INCLUSIVITY AND ANTI-RACISM

This will always be at the heart of everything we do. We will continue to provide opportunities for emerging artists, and ensure there is diversity within our productions.

COMMITMENT TO INCLUSIVITY AND ANTI-RACISM

We will continue to educate ourselves in the anti-racism practices developing within the professional theatre industry as a whole, and rise to meet these standards and implement them in every way possible. We will continue to have open auditions and an open submission process for our productions, removing the barriers of gate-keeping. There will be equal opportunity for new and returning artists to work with us. As a small organization, we admit we do not have the funds to educate our team internally, but we independently work to better ourselves and our community every day for the sake of those of all backgrounds to feel welcome and respected in the theatre community.

For information on other Philadelphia organizations we admire for their commitments to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA), see: The Wilma Theater, Theater Horizon, and 11th Hour Theatre Company.

+ MODERNITY

Our modernity is twofold, both in how we create theatre, and the types of theatre we produce.

COMMITMENT TO MODERNITY

We will develop and produce theatre for now, from now, with stories that explore the current, relevant issues in our society. We’re utilizing new technologies in order to provide fresh and innovative works of theatre in person and online, as well as producing works that actively challenge our artists and our audiences.

+ TRANSPARENCY

We believe in radical transparency, communicating openly with all our members, artists, and patrons. This not only aids in keeping us accountable, but assists in creating a safe space for creation and exploration.

COMMITMENT TO TRANSPARENCY

All artists will receive a contract clearly outlining the expectations of their work with explicit language about stipend pay and date commitment in advance of their first day of work on a project. Artists will not be asked to do any work beyond the scope of this contract unless an additional agreement is made between artists and producer.
