Modern, authentic, and truthful queer storytelling onstage is both wanted and urgently needed, as queer individuals face increasing threat and criticism. According to the American Civil Liberties Union, more than 400 bills that the organization identifies as anti-L.G.B.T.Q.+ are currently under consideration around the country. These bills feature provisions like curriculum censorship, facilities bans, and mandates that school staff out young people to their families.
The necessity for authentic queer theatre that fosters greater understanding is more vital than ever.
